This was a great quote that I experienced about 2 years ago. Today, I took it a notch higher – people don’t care about you (in a positive way definitely) until they know you are doing something!

I was sitting at a workshop on entrepreneurship and during the end, a vibrant young lady came to me, she told me my name, stated my profile to me in words like these...I’ve heard about you Blessing, you’re an Author and you’re passionate about empowering women in Africa – that is really wonderful!

Wow…I never thought about my profile that way, it was amazing. I literally hugged her when we were done talking. She was a dreamer herself who is living out her passion and it resonated well. My point is, how did she even know all of that before walking up to me? would she have walked up to me with a ‘profile’ if I never did anything before? when did I ever build such an attraction? and more questions…

Then I took time to be grateful and also follow-up on what led to that conversation, and I found out that someone sitting close to her pitched in about my book and a brief profile about me (so humbling). This is what led to her approaching me at the end of the event (she is amazing!).

Sitting down here while writing this, it hits me, ‘continuous effort sums up!!! literally’. Some people may never have the opportunity to approach you, except they know that you are doing something (positive, passion-driven and valuable, in this case). My story is, all I ever wanted to do was write and write some more – and only today I realized that from writing I was invariably empowering women in Africa. Hmmm

I love it…it reminds me of the quote by Marianne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Oh my God, it is even Biblical, you know Mathew 5 verse 16:

When you realize that your action steps will give others permission to live out their dreams, you will start today. And while you’re at it, people will see your results and amazingly build your profile for you.

This story for me is a classic case of, Hallelujah!
